Often times, local companies are overlooked by big-name businesses, so Google has created a tool to help you stand out in a local listing called Google My Business. It works whether you have a store front or not, but if you have a store front, it should be a priority. I have included some examples of Google My Business throughout my blog for you to compare.
To the right, I have included the account for the UGA bookstore. As you can see, it’s an easy place to find the address, hours, and phone number for the bookstore. Probably one of the best features (my favorite feature) of My Business is the easy-to-find Google reviews. I won’t even eat at a new restaurant without searching for reviews first, so this makes it very easy to find exactly what I’m looking for. But what’s in it for the business? These reviews increase local search rankings, add credibility to your business, and help you understand your consumers. Within your account, Google provides analytics about your reviews including information about the number of reviews you have, where they are coming from, and your rating status.
Check out these two images below. The first image is a screenshot of my search results when I googled “uga stadium.” The second image is a screenshot of my search results when I googled “florida stadium.” Can you spot the difference?
No, I didn’t crop anything out of the second image. That is truly what you see when you search both stadiums. UGA has a great Google My Business profile set up on the right of the search results. It clearly states the location, capacity, and the Fall 2017 Football Schedule! How convenient is that?! Florida doesn’t have any of that information (not that I would want to know that information because Go Dawgs!), but if I were a jorts-wearing, Florida fan, I might want to know that information.
Google My Business is a great tool for small, local businesses to help them stand up against well-known businesses. It’s straightforward and easy to use, so every business should have one. After all, what’s the point in having a great website, if no one can find it?
Once you create a Google My Business account, you can start using other Google tools including AdWords Express and Google Analytics. Stay tuned for a blog about both of these business tools!
