Mobile Responsiveness

Is your website mobile responsive? All websites have the capability of being opened on a mobile device, but I’m asking is it compatible? There is a huge difference between having your standard website on a mobile device and having a mobile responsive website. I have included an image to show the difference.

On the left, you can see that this is just a standard website fit to the mobile screen making it difficult to see the text. On the right, it is obvious that the website is tailored to the mobile device making the experience more enjoyable. Consumers will easily become frustrated and leave the page if the content is not compatible.

Five years ago, this frustration wouldn’t have mattered because mobile shopping was not common, but that has changed significantly in the past few years. According to Business Insider,  Mobile Commerce (m-commerce) is predicted to almost equal the amount of PC commerce by 2020.

So what do this trend mean?

Customers want mobile websites – and now they are expecting it. As a society that’s always on the go, we expect the websites we enjoy to understand that – whether it’s an eCommerce website or a blog.

Ignoring the trend of m-Commerce means missing out on profit and viewership depending on your website, so what are some things to focus on to enhance your website’s mobile responsiveness?

  • Make sure elements of your website are “tap friendly” including phone numbers, addresses, social media icons, etc.
  • Let the imagery speak – Utilize visual content such as infographics and videos because viewers would prefer not to read lengthy texts on a small screen.
  • Provide an easy scroll experience – don’t bother your viewers with a “pinch and zoom” experience.
  • Make sure it scales to fit all mobile devices

In an earlier blog, I listed a few website builders that offer responsive mobile websites. If you are considering creating a website with a builder, make sure you use one that offers this feature because you don’t want to ignore this trend!
