This past month or so has been a crazy one. There’s a lot of bad happening in the world and in America right now- most recently the shooting in Las Vegas on Sunday night, which has been deemed the deadliest shooting in modern US history. This title previously belonged to the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando just last year. As a country we also need not forget about US territory Puerto Rico, who is still recovering from the devastation brought on by Hurricane Maria two weeks ago- the death toll is rising and the entire island is still without power. We need to be vigilant in donating whatever time, money, resources, and prayers we can offer to help our fellow human beings.
We can’t forget about a tragedy just because a newer one comes along.
But it’s also okay to step away from the media flood of coverage. We are not meant to absorb this much news of devastation in this capacity all at once. I’m not writing a long post today because I don’t really have it in me, and I think that’s okay. Take a minute if you can, turn off social media, turn off the news (I feel like nightly news is literally all bad news all the time now), read a book or binge-watch The Office for the 20th time (other people do that too, right?). Step away, just for a minute.
