Eggo Plays Up ‘Stranger Things’ Cameo

It’s almost Halloween time, and this year that means more than just costumes and candy. Netflix’s hit original show Stranger Things is coming back on October 27th for its highly anticipated second season. And if you watched season one (if you didn’t, click out of this article right now and start the 8-episode season immediately, I beg of you) then you remember the short but memorable moment when Eleven steals several boxes of frozen Eggo waffles from a convenience store. What started out as an unpaid product placement has since spiraled, and Eggo is taking full advantage of that.

To gear up for season two, Eggo provided 9 waffle-based recipes correlating to all nine episodes of the season, perfect for viewing parties or your solo weekend-long Stranger Things binge. Eggo worked in collaboration with Netflix and got the episode titles in order to create recipes accordingly.

1. “MADMAX” – made with an Eggo waffle, a chicken tender, maple syrup, & sriracha

3. “The Pollywog”- made with Eggo waffles, ice cream, fresh fruit, and whipped cream
7. “The Spy”- made with an Eggo waffle, bell peppers, sausage links, syrup, & sriracha

This isn’t the only promotion Eggo has done for Stranger Things. They also introduced a Google Chrome extension to block spoilers from season two. And last year after the premiere of season one, they released DIY costume ideas to transform an empty Eggo waffle box into part of a Stranger Things-inspired Halloween Costume.

Sometimes when a brand get involved in pop culture, it can get out of hand and make consumers roll their eyes. But honestly, I love this collaboration. It’s a bit extra, but everything Eggo is offering is useful and fun. Stranger Things season 2 will be released on Netflix on Friday, October 27, and you can find me in my apartment cheffing up waffle masterpieces inspired by Eggo.
