Blog 10 – Starbucks New Cups

If you’re anything like me, you’ve been patiently waiting for the Holiday season.  Every year I look forward to holiday traditions, Hallmark Christmas movies, and decorating our house.  However, one of my favorite parts of Christmas is drinking a hot cup of coffee from one of Starbucks’ new holiday cups.  Every year after Halloween, Starbucks debuts a “holiday cup” that is very different than the usual white cups.  Each year, there is a different design, ranging from snowmen to ornaments to presents. If you remember the dilemma in 2015, Starbucks came out with a holiday cup that was just a plain red cup.  No Christmas design, no holiday spirit, no fun.  This created a huge uproar from people all over the world.

Starbucks obviously learned from their mistake.  They listened to the public criticism and in 2016, the two holiday cups consisted of reindeer and tangled Christmas lights. I believe this was a wise decision, because it is what the consumer wanted to see. This year, after much anticipation, the new holiday cup is actually white with splashes of red.  The details on the cup are impeccable; I never knew so much could be incorporated into one small cup.  There are Christmas trees, hand holding, hearts, presents, and more.  Starbucks was risky this year: this is the first year they haven’t had an all red cup.  I think the risk paid off and Starbucks has done a great job marketing their holiday drinks for the 2017 year.
