This semester, I am fortunate enough to be working with Creature Comforts on their 2018 Get Comfortable Campaign. This opportunity is afforded to me via the ILA program here at the Terry College of Business, and I cannot be more excited!
Every Wednesday between now and April 4th, you can head out to Creature Comforts on Hancock Avenue from 5-9 PM (you don’t have to be 21) and participate in a variety of community activities that go directly towards benefiting their 6 nonprofit partners this year.
The mission of the Get Comfortable campaign is to become a unifying anchor in the business community to support local agencies combating Athens’ most pressing needs. In Athens-Clarke County where one in five people are food-insecure and the poverty rate is 36.6% – nearly twice the state poverty rate of 18.4% – the campaign has traditionally focused on hunger, homelessness, and poverty.
Get Comfortable in 2018 will be a year-round campaign with a pronounced season of emphasis taking place January 10 through April 4, during which Creature Comforts will donate 100% of their Wednesday “community day” profits towards the Get Comfortable Fund. There will also be Get Comfortable merchandise, the return of the popular Get Comfortable IPA, and several other businesses participating to generate additional profits for the fund.
In addition to all of this, Get Comfortable believes everyone has something they can leverAGE. So if you celebrate your birthday at Creature Comforts, a donation will be made by Creature Comforts to the Get Comfortable Fund that matches your age (i.e. turning 21 will result in a $21 donation).
Nonprofit Partners that directly benefit from the Get Comfortable Fund this year:
Advantage Behavioral Health
Athens Area Homeless Shelter
Athens Community Council on Aging
Chosen For Life
Mercy Health Center
Social media and digital marketing has become critical for Creature Comforts’ daily operations, and this utility extends onto the success of the Get Comfortable Campaign as well. Creature Comforts has been attempting to reach people and get the word out about this campaign through the use of Facebook, Instagram, email, and word-of-mouth. Some examples are pictured below via their @CreatureComforts Beer Instagram account. Creature Comforts also created getcurious.com to serve as a central hub for everything Get Comfortable related and future campaigns. You can find this linked on their main Creature Comforts website and various posts on Facebook and Instagram @CreatureComfortsBeer.
