How to Appeal to Millennials on Twitter

Every social media has its purpose. On Instagram we display the best pictures of ourselves so that hopefully our crush will see our latest post and by some miracle, like it. On Facebook we invite friends to events and post dramatic life updates about ourselves in which a distant relative that we rarely see always feels the need to reply to. And on Twitter we all come together to troll other people that we don’t even know. Company’s on Twitter are now realizing that the best way to appeal to millennials is to just roast them on Twitter. Gone are the days where companies tweet back to see how they can improve your experience with their products. Now they just roast people on twitter who say bad things about their products. First example is Wendy’s.

As seen through this reply they do not apologize for the poor experience of the consumer with their food, they just roast the consumer. It’s honestly genius. Millennials love it because we have such a twisted sense of humor and like watching people get roasted. Twitter has progressively gone from a condensed version of Facebook that we get small news updates from to this world of comedic insults being thrown around like bead necklaces at Mardi Gras. Second Example is Moonpie.

Here Kaela doesn’t even @ Moonpie in her tweet, yet the company tweets back at her anyways. Instead of having actual concern about why Kaela doesn’t like Moonpies, they decide to get into an argument with her that then ends in a roast. The final tweet making fun of her name ended up getting 16k RT’s. Moonpie now has 180k followers because of their roasting reputation and people want to see that play out on their timelines. It’s a brilliant marketing method for twitter when trying to appeal to the younger generation and it’s really working. More and more companies are hopping on the roast train and by the looks of things the two professionals are teaming up.

Keep your head on a swivel my fellow twitter users and be careful when saying bad things about Wendy’s or Moonpie from now on. But if you do insult either one of these companies I can’t wait to see you get annihilated on my timeline. As my good friend Michael Scott likes to say, “BOOM ROASTED!”
