Most people I know have more than 500 followers on Instagram, some even have thousands! But I on the other hand have 228. When I first created my Instagram account I wanted to have a ton of followers like most people usually do when they create an Instagram account. I had it since 2014. I downloaded the app that told you who followed you, unfollowed you or even blocked you. Isn’t that crazy that they have an app like that?? I guess that just shows how obsessed people can get with how many followers they have. Or sometimes posting scandalous pictures to get more followers. I follow this one girl I’ve known since she was a baby and now she is 16, posting inappropriate pictures to get comments, likes and followers (she’s lucky that I haven’t told her mama!) Anyway, I get it though, recognition is what almost every single human being craves. Everyone wants to be noticed. It wasn’t until last year that I honestly didn’t care about who follows or unfollows me or who liked or didn’t like my picture. It used to bother me when someone unfollowed me or a certain person didn’t like my picture. Last year I FINALLY realized that it was the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever stressed about. I still have people that follow me just to unfollow me 5 seconds later if I don’t follow them back. I don’t care about how many followers I have anymore. Our phones are glued to our hands and since that’s the case, I choose to follow people that I actually care about, I follow positive and motivational quotes so I can see a quote every day that will give me a positive outlook on the rest of the day or week, I follow all kinds of pages with cute dogs and kittens and any kind of cute animal because who doesn’t like to watch an adorable golden retriever puppy learning how to howl?! I follow interior design and wedding planning pages because it’s just so pretty to look at! I follow people and pages that make me happy. Ever since I’ve stopped obsessing over how many followers I have, I have felt so much better and I feel so much happier! Obsessing over your Instagram followers can mess with your mental health, self-esteem and overall happiness. It’s not worth it. What pages do you follow on Instagram that makes you happy?
