Last week, my roommate and I were craving some Chinese food. However, neither of us had any idea where we should go. I googled for thirty minutes trying to find a place but nothing looked appetizing, so we ended up just going to Chipotle. Then we got to thinking, why could we list off restaurants of every other type of food besides Chinese? Off the top of our head we named many Mexican restaurants such as Tlaloc, Taqueria del Sol, Agua Linda, Cali N Tito’s. We named off some American restaurants like Clocked, Last Resort, The Place. And also some Italian restaurants such as DePalma’s, Ted’s Most Best, La Dolce Vita. We could name off many other restaurants of other cuisines and but we could not name a single Chinese restaurant.
Then, once I started digging, I realized that all these places we could name all had a strong social media and digital marketing presence. Each place either had a strong social media usage or had a well designed website with appetizing photos. But almost every Chinese restaurant I tried to look up had a confusing, hard to use website with no pictures or no social media presence.
Digital Marketing has become the main source of marketing and Chinese restaurants need to capitalize on it. If places in Athens revamped their websites and showcased their food, more people, like my roommate and I, would go to them.
