From Square One

As the end of senior year looms near, I am faced with the bittersweet arrival of true adulthood. With true adulthood comes the daunting task of finding a job. I am pleased to say I am currently working for MRN Contracting, a full-service roofing and repair company in Georgia and North Carolina. I am working in the marketing department, and I have never been happier with my decision in careers. I was a little worried when I started doing internships a few years ago because I didn’t feel fulfilled in my job role. I was craving responsibility and for my work to truly make a difference. I have found this with MRN and I will strive for this fulfilling feeling in every position I take from here on out.

MRN is a small company which means I get to see all facets of the Marketing department and how it works hand in hand with every other area of the company. Currently we are in the process of completely re-branding the company and creating a web presence. This means all new tangible marketing materials, a new website and launching social media. I am the liaison between the company and the digital agency MRN is using out of Raleigh. Together we have created a new logo, which allows for greater brand recognition and an overall more professional and crisp look to the brand. We are in the process of creating new business cards, leave behind pamphlets for homeowners and much more collateral to leave a lasting impression on potential clients.

My largest task is the creation of the website. I will be gathering all necessary content to write copy for the site, as well as trial and error through the best site maps, color schemes, photography and overall message of the company. While this company uses many traditional marketing techniques still, I am helping to develop the digital marketing approach from square one. We are going to be tracking how sales fluctuate once the new brand, website and social media are launched later this month, in hopes to prove just how influential digital marketing is in today’s market.

I enjoyed reading your article and hearing about your role in MRN. I am also currently in the process of finding a job and have had experience with not having as much responsibility in others, so I know how stressful it can be. Also very cool that you are in charge of designing the website. That takes a lot of time and effort and does require tedious attention to detail but I am sure it will look great! Hopefully your sales do go up once you launch everything. Good luck!!
