Curtsy… say that word and most people immediately think of queens and princesses, but say that word to a college-aged girl and something else will come to mind. Curtsy is a fairly new company that is revolutionizing fashion at universities and high schools as well. The way it works is that you download the app, create an account, and from there you’re able to post your dresses and other clothing items for other girls to rent, and you’re also able to browse to rent other girls’ dresses. It’s all based on your location so you pick a city or a university and the app will then filter your feed based on that.
I’ve yet to post anything on curtsy but I have rented dresses from there multiple times and it’s been great. It’s saved me quite a few times when I’ve needed a dress last minute for a date night or whatever it is. But what I like the most is that I’m able to wear name-brand clothing without the price tag, especially when I’d only wear it once anyways.
What has caught my eye the most about curtsy is how successful they’ve been in such little time. They’ve already spread to so many different campuses, as well as cities. They do an incredible job in the marketing department. Their main form is through their “ambassadors”. Every semester, girls can apply to be campus ambassadors and a few are hired by Curtsy. Their jobs are to promote Curtsy through social media, host events, have giveaways, etc. There is one main Instagram for Curtsy as well as separate accounts for each campus. In my opinion, Instagram has been the most effective form of marketing for this company. With college culture the way it is, Instagram is the best way to reach a younger audience, especially with girls. I look forward to continue seeing Curtsy grow because I think the concept is great.
