5 Reasons Why Your Brand is BAD at Social Media

Have you ever wondered why your brand isn’t up to par with your competitors on social media?

Below are 5 reasons why your brand might be failing at social media and a few quick fixes to change the trajectory.

1. You need a new social media coordinator

If your social media manager has a bad rep at their old jobs, they probably aren’t best for the job. Check out the sites they have managed before to see if the content is unique or inviting, if followers are engaging with the posts, or if their voice reflects that of the company. More times than not, if the person isn’t doing a good job now, they probably have a bad history.

The fix: Find a new social media coordinator or at least a coach that could help develop the appropriate skills.

2. You’re using the channels wrong

You need to make sure you are generating content that is unique to each platform. You wouldn’t post a photo collage on Twitter, would you? No! Make sure you understand what each site’s intended purpose is.

The fix: Do your research on each site to see what content will work the best. If you’re having trouble understanding what to post, take a look at your competitor’s sites.

3. You’re all about numbers, not quality

It’s better to have a few posts of great content than tons of crappy ones. Better quality posts that create a unique atmosphere and feeling among your audience achieves higher levels of engagement.

The fix: Strive for quality over quantity.

4. Your content is lacking value

Your content shouldn’t be about highlighting ads or sales promotions, but rather be about engaging your audience and creating meaningful connections. The more value you add to your brand, the more loyal your audience will be.

The fix: Create content that you know your audience wants to see. Would you want to see posts all about sales promotions?

5. The Social Media Manager doesn’t understand your business landscape

It is super important to have a social media coordinator who knows your business inside and out. If your business is all about skateboarding, they need to be an expert on all things that pertain to action sports. Social media is the number one way to communicate with the consumer, so it is crucial to have a social media manager who knows what they are talking about.

The fix: Train your social media manager on the latest trends, breaking news, and traits of your business environment. They need to be an expert of their field.

I love this! This is really good advice. I have definitely been caught in the trap of going for quantity of quality before. I agree that quality is more important. It’s true that if you aren’t posting things that move people to act in some way and convey value, then your brand will quickly fade into the noise. Great post!
