While their season came to an abrupt hail-mary end last week, the New Orleans Saints have plenty to look forward to in the coming seasons, and much of that is credited to their rookie phenom, Alvin Kamara. The rookie season for any professional athlete can be a tumultuous one, filled with frustration and struggle, but for the Saint’s Running Back and likely Rookie of the Year, not only did Kamara shatter all expectations, he possibly managed to secure a near future endorsement by Airheads.
What seems as a rather strange relationship began as Kamara confided his love for the candy company in a tweet earlier in the season. Consequentially, to his surprise, Kamara took to Twitter to show off the immense care package gifted by none other than Airheads themselves.
Since then, Kamara was not shy to flaunt his fresh pack as he’s been known in the locker room to dish out the taffy for any of his teammates looking for quick fix. To even up the ante, the Running Back has incorporated the candy into his celebration ritual, frequently busting out and eating candy soon after scoring a touchdown.
While some would consider this action to be childlike or immature, Airheads Candy is not one of those critics; in fact, they are absolutely loving the exposure. Kamara hasn’t been the first NFL player to express their love for candy. Marshawn Lynch’s notorious sponsorship with Skittles has featured him in several tv commercials, and it too started off with his initial love for the candy. And with the potential superstar appeal Alvin Kamara posses, it won’t be long until Kamara will ink in his own candy endorsement.
While candy is probably not the most nutritious snack to munch on during practice and game-time, this unique relationship highlights the willingness for companies to market their brand wherever they find an appealing medium, and as long as Kamara continues to produce on the field, whose gonna tell him and Airheads otherwise?
