JUST as I suspected… there are great people around us!
This is face #1 of the series and I couldn’t have asked for a better start.
This is Ashton James Dean. Not only is that name completely badass, AJ also has a beautiful soul to go along with it. AJ identifies as gender fluid and is a nonconforming, headstrong, and independent 18 year old. In the midst of their gap year, AJ works two jobs here in Athens while deciding the next step in life.
As I stated in my previous blog post, I want to discover a link between people’s personality traits, backstory, or even political views and the effectiveness of the digital marketing which they are exposed to. In an attempt to uncover a link such as that in AJ’s life, I asked them about the types of news sources and social media they used on a daily basis. I also asked AJ if there was an event that happened in their life that changed or even solidified the way they thought.
In AJ’s response, it was obvious how politically aware AJ is. AJ takes social justice and equality very seriously, so it was no surprise when AJ stated that the election of President Donald Trump was a major event in their life. AJ stated the election and events following has most definitely affected not only the exposure of digital marketing in AJ’s life, but especially the opinions of the marketing AJ does see.
For example, AJ brought Lush Cosmetic’s new Valentine’s Day campaign to my attention.
This post on the company’s Instagram page includes a same sex couple bathing together, seemlessly including the LGBT+ community in their campaign. This is one way the company is connecting to its customers and displaying its social awareness. AJ, along with so many other members and supporters of the LGBTQ+ community, recognize and appreciate companies who care about the same ideas they care about, ESPECIALLY during this seemingly jagged political era.
People today are wanting more from a company. It is no longer enough to walk into a store, find what you need, and get out. We want to know that the company and products we are investing in align with the way we think. AJ made it obvious that it is very beneficial for a company to have a social conscience AND successfully convey their ideas through digital channels in today’s world.
