Frugal & Fabulous – Interior Design Tips from a Financial Planner (#4)

Hi all! Welcome to this week’s edition of Frugal & Fabulous, where we’ll be delving into oriental rugs!

Oriental and Persian rugs are known for their “extremely rich color combinations and unique designs, and a very distinct knot” (Sheffield Furniture & Interiors). It’s no surprise that these works of art became an extremely sought after home addition for many. These rugs, which are hand woven from died wool or yard require a large amount of manual labor, and this is reflected in their price. Due to the fact that the trend has become so pervasive, more affordable home retailers like Wayfair and Overstock have begun to carry “Oriental Inspired” designs. Their digital marketing teams have caught on to the trend and are taking advantage of modern technical to replicate these beautiful pieces for much more affordable prices.

Here is a genuine Oriental Rugs featured in Southern Living:

These antique pieces can cost as much as $10,000.

Here is a similar example from Pottery Barn:

Pottery Barn, which is know as an upscale home retailer, still offer Persian “style” rugs for prices as low at $200. Which in comparison is much more reasonable.

Thanks for reading!

Ok, I seriously love these type of rugs. Magnolia Homes (or whatever Chip and Joanna Gaines’s line is called) has started to make these rugs. They’re not super cheap but definitely more reasonably priced than the real thing. Since Chip and Jo are behind the rugs, they’re obviously beautiful.
