An App That Helps You Reclaim Your Time

Cellphones and apps are getting a bad reputation these days for being a distraction. The most popular apps, such as social media platforms and games, are used as relaxation or procrastination outlets depending on the users discretion and self-control. I admit, I have fallen into the trap of a studying break turning into an hour full of scrolling twitter or laughing at Facebook videos. A good majority of the apps take advantage of the chance to distract consumers from their tasks and hopefully attract them towards their sponsored ads for the latest product or service. However, there are some good apps still out there that are not hoping to profit on our unproductivity.

Take for instance: FocusList. It is a daily planner that keeps track of how successful you are at achieving your goals each day. You are suppose to begin your day by inputting all the tasks you hope to complete and how long you estimate they will take. You then alert FocusList when you want to start your first task and it goes into “Focus Mode”. You are given 25 minutes free of any distractions or alerts from your phone and then given a 5 minute break to relax. The cycle continues until you have complete your task. The app keeps up with your daily stats and how well you did will finishing everything on your checklist. It compares your productivity to throughout the year, helping you stay motivated to be better each day.

It’s a solid and much needed app that can have a huge audience. So far doesn’t allow advertisers to capitalize on and bother consumers. Hopefully it stays that way at least until finals are over.
