Life Alert 2.0

As of last Wednesday, Apple has released its newest line of products. From the new phones to apple watches, Apple has taken big steps for this product line from what they offering offering to what these products are made up of. While many just see the Apple Keynote as a way to launch these new products, is is actually an event for software developers and etcetera to go to in order to see the new hardware and software apple has created for learning and admiring purposes. However, it does have the dynamic for those who just want to see the new products frost to see them.

Apples new product line consists of 3 new iPhones and a new Apple Watch centered around iOS 12. The new Apple Watch is the Series 4.  This new watch has made a HUGE step in technology and will reach and penetrate the smart watch market more than ever before. The new watch has a bigger screen by increasing the size 2mm by getting rid of the bevel edge, it is thinner, has automatic workout detection and other motivation features, and the built in cellular data made a come back. As if these features weren’t enough for most people to upgrade, there is more. The new Apple Watch, Series 4, has made huge steps toward putting health first and is now equipped with with a built in gyro sphere that does fall detection, and a built in ECG to monitor your heart wherever you go, and has an updated emergency SOS feature. “the new accelerometer and gyroscope, Apple Watch can detect that you’ve fallen. When an incident like this occurs, a hard fall alert is delivered, and you can easily initiate a call to emergency services or dismiss the alert. If you’re unresponsive after 60 seconds, the emergency call will be placed automatically and a message will be sent to your emergency contacts,” said apple (apple.com). Basically, apple has created Life Alert 2.0, but it doesn’t just stop at Fall Detection. Apple has a “Digital Crown” and the back crystal that now works together to read electrical heart impulses (ECG) and still tracks Beats per Minute (BPM). Together this data is collection and monitored to, “indicate whether your heart rhythm shows signs of atrial fibrillation — a serious form of irregular heart rhythm — or sinus rhythm, which means your heart is beating in a normal pattern,” (apple.com). It is simply amazing.

This new Apple Watch is the first FDA approved medical device that does not require a prescription and is available to all of the public. This is huge step for Apple, and with these new features, they are not just reaching the tech savvy market, they are reaching into the market of those who watch their health, who have health problems that need real time tracking they can turn into their doctor. The Apple Watch will take over the smart watch market.

This was an awesome blog post! It immediately grabbed my attention because I have been thinking about getting an Apple Watch and this just convinced me to save money to buy the series 4 watch! I think the falling feature of the watch is super helpful and could save people lives if they really were unresponsive. The watch seems to be more geared towards working out as well so if you are working out alone (going for a run by yourself) it is important to have those features incase you pass out or trip. It was very smart of Apple to install! I loved how you called the falling feature Life Alert 2.0 because that is exactly what I thought of when I was reading this. I also liked how you tied it in to people who have health issues could use this product to their benefit and keep track of their heart rate which is crucial. I really want to give this product a try!
