Tonight, Delta Zeta is hosting their annual Wing Bash philanthropy event. It is at the DZ house from 5-8 pm every year and benefits the Starkey Hearing Foundation, which provides hearing aids to people all around the world who are in need. Philanthropic organizations often have to try out a variety of different events before they find one that is truly successful in raising a significant amount of money. For Delta Zeta, Wing Bash has proven to be a campus favorite every year. In 2015, it was even voted the Best Philanthropy Event on Campus.
The event is always catered with thousands of wings with buffalo, lemon pepper, and teriyaki flavors, as well as sides and desserts. Usually, vendors from local Athens boutiques will have a trunk show at the event and there will be raffles people can enter. Additionally, there is live music at the event which creates a perfect environment to have dinner and hang out with friends while supporting a great cause.
However, hosting a successful philanthropy event would be nearly impossible if we had to rely solely on word of mouth and print to spread information about the event. Social media marketing enables us to inexpensively share information about Wing Bash, sell tickets and shirts, and ultimately get people to attend the event.
As you can see in the photos above, Delta Zeta utilizes Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat in unique ways to connect with followers and advertise Wing Bash.
Delta Zeta uploads Instagram stories with aesthetically pleasing photos and text to inform followers about the event. They also use Snapchat to post stories and create filters people can use at the event. On Facebook, we create an event that members share with their friends where they can see the location, time, and other information about the event. Facebook events allow users to RSVP if they are interested in going to the event. When users select “interested” or “going,” Facebook will automatically send those people notifications when the event is approaching. Last, DZ posts information on Twitter with entertaining captions to grab their audience’s attention.
The saying “there is strength in numbers” certainly applies when it comes to advertising events on social media. Both the Delta Zeta social media pages and individual members of the organization share social media content regarding Wing Bash, which undoubtedly has an effect on the success of the event. And honestly, who wouldn’t want to attend an event with unlimited wings and live entertainment that benefits an amazing philanthropy?
