In an age where people put everything on social media, it seems that we are forgetting that our future employers will probably be stalking us during the interview processes. It’s not difficult to present yourself in a professional manner, all it takes is a little self-awareness. Here are three tips on how to present yourself on social media:
Tip 1: Keep the Frat Pics off the Gram
While it may prove that you did make an appearance at that party, the red solo cup isn’t doing anything for you in the business community. Employers typically don’t want to see you passed out on the floor. Think about the benefits of posting the picture, versus what the consequences might be.
Tip 2: Don’t Forget What You Look Like
That orange skin and gray hair filter doesn’t look as good as you think it does. I see people in person that I would never recognize based on what they look like in their selfies. While giving your teeth a little whitening treatment or removing that blemish from your forehead won’t make a big difference, don’t go overboard on filtering out your distinguishing characteristics.
Tip 3: Leave the Personal Details to Your Diary
No one needs to hear about the horrible day you had or the tragic break-up you are experiencing. While you should feel free to talk about those topics with your close friends, sharing your whole life’s story in your captions might not be the best idea. It can only come back to bite you!
