Captain Marketing

Less than a week ago, Marvel Studios released the trailer for Captain Marvel on YouTube. Since then, the video has already garnered over 35 million views. A quick search shows that the movie, which is set to be released March of 2019, already has a strong social media presence. There is already a Twitter account made and verified with over half a million followers, an Instagram account with over 30K followers, and a Facebook page with over 300K fans. The Instagram account is freshly made with only three posts dating back six days, but the Twitter account has been around for years now. The first tweet dating all the way back to October of 2014. Likewise, the Facebook page was also created back in October of 2014. Marvel Studios has been working to market Captain Marvel for four years now. The trailer was just released six days ago. 

I understand that Marvel is a huge company with a budget to spend on anything it wants, but four years to market a film before it even releases a trailer is insane. It’s so insane that it’s impressive. With that said, the Marvel franchise has so many different characters and subplots, I wonder if all of the past movies that Marvel has made has had as complex of a marketing plan. 

Not released until March, I’m interested to see how Marvel Studios will amp up its marketing strategy in upcoming months prior to the film’s theatrical release. With almost five years in the making by then, I’m sure it will be something impressive.
