Animals of Instagram: The Rescue Dog

This weeks’ Instagram shout-out goes out to an animal account that I have been following very closely recently. I have been an avid follower of this account for quite awhile now and I think its time to share her sad, but hopeful story.

@ChiChiRescueDog is a 4-year-old female golden retriever that deserves all the love in the world right now. She is a quadruple amputee and was rescued from South Korea by her loving owner. However, there is no need to fear, she is able to maneuver around by using her 4 customer prosthetic legs. She works as a certified therapy dog and visits children in hospitals and schools. Her common patients are fellow amputees as well. Chi Chi works hard everyday to bring a smile on so many people’s faces.

Here is the update on her social media:

The Instagram account has over 41K followers and currently has 877 posts. Each post gets thousands of likes and the captions share the life of Chi Chi. Unfortunately, last year she was diagnosed with cancer and was going through cancer treatments. She thankfully was able to get 2 of the cancer tumors removed. She also struggles daily with Lupus which severely impacts her limbs. Her account has been documenting her progress and shares the highs and lows of her journey. Her dedicated followers post hundreds of comments with their thoughts and prayers, everyone wishing for Chi Chi to get better.

Besides Instagram, Chi Chi also utilizes different social media accounts. She has a Facebook page that also has a strong following of 57K people and plenty of posts about Chi Chi’s updates. Her Facebook page is also used to facilitate meet-ups with her fans in order for people to meet the famous pup.

Chi Chi also utilizes her social media accounts in order to raise awareness about her Go FundMe pages. Veterinary bills and the cost of her prosthetics get expensive, so she needs all the help she can get when it comes to getting support. The page has been able to generate over $20,000 for Chi Chi in just over a year. This just shows the power of social media and how it brings everyone together. Many people want to show their love for this dog and help in any ways that they can. Without social media, Chi Chi would not have the help that she is having today.

@ChiChiRescueDog is the cutest dog and deserves a follow from everyone. Make sure to send some love and prayers her way!

She is absolutely adorable and I love the fact that she works as a therapy dog despite her handicap. It’s incredible to the way dog/animal social media accounts have grown to the point that pets like Doug the Pug have become incredibly profitable and “influencers” in their own right. Anything is possible thanks to the internet.

I was drawn to this post because of the dog picture. As a fellow animal lover, I follow many animal accounts– probably as many as I do humans. I love animal accounts have become a thing now… showing animals’ personalities is amazing and never fails to brighten someone’s day. I especially love how the accounts with a large following are using their platform to raise awareness for animals in need!

I am always surprised by how much social media can impact our society! It’s so encouraging that people can rally together for a common purpose and goal and be successful. I have had friends that have needed to fundraise for various things, such as mission trips or their respective organizations that they support. For one example, my roommate had to raise $1,500 to serve on a mission trip to Jamaica. She posted her link to her GoFundMe account on all platforms of her social media and posted a description of what she would be doing and why she was going. In a span of 4 months, she was able to almost fully fund her trip from donations from family and friends on her social media accounts alone. I guess this also speaks to how incredible social media can be when trying to achieve a goal; especially an amazing goal such as this for this sweet pup!
