This week, to discuss the power of Instagram influencers I’m moving to the beauty sector of app. As if they all aren’t beautiful, but some capitalize on solely beauty and products. Seems unfair to me but if it works for you, it works. Now personally I pass about a million stop and play makeup tutorial Instagrams as a scroll through after I’ve just woken up in the morning, so why would any stick out? Well, I think Huda Kattan stuck out to me for the same reasons tosticks out to twenty-seven million of her other followers who have helped her multi-million-dollar company. Kattan has a draw unlike those large beauty influencers such as Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner, she is relatable and talented. I would love to buy KKW Beauty products and believe I could actually look like that but I’m also aware that my lack of a ten-person professional team of makeup artists and photographers won’t give me the same effect. This is the barrier I believe Kattan broke, which has lead her to the growing success she faces today.
She began her business from the ground up. Once she realized her passion she began doing her work for free in Dubai with her husband and daughter and posting beauty blogs. As her how-to videos became more popular, her fame grew. As she found her talent she found that there were some brands that weren’t good enough and wished to start her own. With little savings and money borrowed from her sister she was able to start her own brand of false eyelashes. However, this beginning did not come with difficulty. With no money to pay for manufacturing, Kattan was forced to give a cut of sales to distributers in return for their fees.
Kattan posts engaging videos and pictures on her page of trends, reviews, and how-tos. These videos however, do not only contain her applications and thoughts, but also those of her followers, who are naturally relatable to her other followers. Seeing everyday people have success with her products and ground up success is, in my eyes, what sets Kattan apart from other beauty bloggers influence.
