One could not go on any social media platform without seeing some type of Tiger themed post. It’s safe to say that Tigermania was out in full force.
This win has now been named the greatest comeback golf has ever seen. After years of health issues which required extensive medical care, it appears that the true essence of a golfer I grew up with is back. With a winning record only outmatched by a few other players, it’s heartening to see that this legend cannot be stopped.
While the win is great, why can this one man create such buzz and excitement? Even after problems in his personal life and being out of the golf spotlight, the public is still engrossed with his story. He has been noted as the most popular golfer, if not athlete, in the world, but he isn’t even that active on social media. This goes to show that consumers follow brands. Tiger Woods is brand to be reckoned with. One cannot think of Nike, TaylorMade, or the PGA Tour without immediately thinking of this athlete. A simple walk down to the 18th green in Atlanta has gone viral, and only this man can do that.
Only time will tell if this win will bring back sponsors that ran during hard times, but for now we should be weary that he might just actually break the internet if he continues to play this well during the Ryder Cup.
