It took me being on Twitter for less than 10 minutes to see some exciting and alarming about Facebook. I’ll cover the alarming news first and then get into something a bit more exciting.
In a Bloomberg article, the two founders have decided to part ways with the company due to being “frustrated with an unusual uptick in day-to-day involvement by Zuckerberg”. The Instagram co-founders have remained at Facebook since Zuckerberg bought the application in 2012. Now that the founders are gone, it’ll be extremely interesting to see how their departure affects the application and the one billion users of the app. With all the scandals and negative press associated with Facebook, Instagram is a key driver of revenue for the company. Earlier this year, Brian Acton and Jan Koum, the founders of WhatsApp, also decided to departure Facebook after disagreements with Zuckerberg over the business model.
Now onto some more exciting news, Facebook has recently announced Facebook for Creators. I initially saw an advertisement on Twitter and become immediately intrigued to learn more about the new feature. Essentially, Facebook for Creators is a hub for individuals interested in creating content such as videos and monetizing those videos on Facebook’s platform. It’s essentially trying to incorporate what YouTube does and working hard to get individuals interested and enrolled.
I was a little curious so I decided to check out the website for creators as well (it’s http://www.facebook.com/creators/) and it’s a pretty informative site. It’s easy to sign-up because all you need is a facebook account which most people already have. I have already seen tons of video advertisements on Facebook and I’m wondering if the addition of this feature will increase those advertisements. How exactly will individuals find other people’s videos as well because it isn’t exactly set up like YouTube? Nonetheless, I’m excited to see how this feature continues to grow, but it’s completely stealing YouTube’s business model. What do you guys think about all this new Facebook news?
