LinkedIn Advertising?

LinkedIn Advertising?

Is or is not Facebook listening to me when I talk to my friends? I don’t know the full facts behind this question but what I do know is that its creepy when I am talking to my friend about my need to update my LinkedIn profile one minute and the next the top video on my Facebook feed is LinkedIn’s newest advertisement. Besides the point of Facebook listening to my every conversation, I had no idea that LinkedIn was actively promoting its services. To me, I thought almost everyone knew the value that this business and job-oriented service provides. However, upon further research on this ad, I found out that there has been some backlash on their current stereotype. Currently their standard is “white collar” business people, however the company has just released a new campaign titled “In It Together.” This campaign features a diverse range of people as well as job types. This video is a strong message that LinkedIn is moving away from what is was previously known for. Another interesting part of this campaign is the fact that it was shot in black and white, it was shot documentary style, and it features real life users. Due to these aspects, the viewer feels as though he or she is really right in the person’s life watching what is happening in their life.

Additionally, this was LinkedIn’s first integrated marketing attempt. The campaign includes videos, ads, podcasts, radio spots, and search engine marketing.  This ad caught my attention and that is half the battle. In my opinion, LinkedIn did a great job of further humanizing their brand and making it feel more accessible. I will definitely be on the lookout for future LinkedIn advertising campaigns.

I also really liked this commercial for LinkedIn. I think it’s funny how it popped up on your Facebook timeline right after you talked about it because this happens for me a lot. I think part of the reason I liked this commercial is because it almost humanized LinkedIn for me. As a college student right now, LinkedIn feels like a daunting platform that I’m supposed to use to get a job, but this advertisement portrayed it as an approachable platform for just staying connected with people.

Yes, Facebook is listening to your conversations, and I constantly get advertisements about what I am talking about…it is very weird! It has to do with your settings on your phone. When you agree to the terms and conditions and update your phone, many don’t know you are agreeing to letting companies use technology to learn more about you. But anyways, I think this Linked In campaign is great! The world is continuously being more open and diverse, and they are definitely taking the right marketing approach with this campaign. Also, advertising is all about pulling on the heart strings and making people feel emotion. This video was exactly that and a really great way of catching their audiences attention.
