This past weekend my roommate and I wanted to treat ourselves to a movie night. I had been wanting to see “A Simple Favor” since I saw the first preview and advertisements over the summer. The movie stars Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick, two of my favorite screen stars, so when we finally found some free time to go, I was pumped.
The movie is the perfect blend of humor, suspense, and mystery and keeps you on your toes all the way to the end. It tells the story of two moms, who could not be more opposite, becoming friends thanks to the growing friendship of their sons. Their personalities balance each other and, in the beginning, seem to be a solid bonding point. Stephanie (Kendrick) is the over-attentive PTA mom with a complicated past love life. Emily (Lively) is the tough-love, hard ass mom who helps Stephanie develop thicker skin. Stephanie is honored that she has the attention of Emily and begins to bend over backwards for her. Emily sees her opportunity to ask Stephanie for… a simple favor.
As the title of this post states, it was not a very simple favor but I will let you figure out why. The movie received an 84% on Rotten Tomatoes and is every bit deserving of that score. You will be laughing while on the edge of your seat for the entire movie. 10/10 highly recommend.
