Building the Riverdale Brand

As we enter into October, my friends and I, along with many others across the globe, are gearing up for the premiere of the hit series, Riverdale. The show has gained a substantial following since its start in 2017, and some claim that it is highly due to both the brand and the cast’s heavy investment in social media. #Riverdale is the third most followed hashtag globally, and that is due to the deliberate action of the cast and crew on social media platforms.

Because of Riverdale’s devotion to social media, the brand has obtained an incredibly loyal fan base and a has seen a continuous growth of fan base both for the show and the leading stars. The show is highly popular among teens and college students, with a generous 1 million viewers still tuning in every week and a 4.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic. There is also a significant global appeal of the show, which can also be partially attributed to the show’s presence across multiple international platforms such as Instagram and Twitter. Riverdale is available internationally in a range of countries and is available on both Netflix and Hulu. The brand’s official social media accounts are where they post exclusive material regarding the show and behind the scenes glimpses of the highly followed cast, creating buzz and building following.

The stars have contributed heavily to the show’s success as they build their social media following and personally promote the show on their accounts. The cast, including Cole Sprouse, Cami Mendes, and Lily Reinhart allow fans to come alongside them as they film the series. They show their personal relationships with one another on all social platforms and let fans get more invested in their own personalities, drawing their audience to the show. They use their social media platforms in place of a press circuit or interview, giving sneak peaks and leaking details. They are very intentional in their posts, consistently showing their off-screen relationships with one another with fun and hilarious content, giving the fans more material to enjoy. The stars are able to perfectly strike the delicate balance between personal content and promotion for the show, which gives the actors a level of sincerity that fans have responded well to.

As a fan of this show I am guilty of following a few of their personal accounts and seeing these posts first hand. They really do utilize social platforms as a a way to generate press for the show. And it works because I will be tuning in when the first episode of the new season premieres!!

This is a great show! I follow some of them on social media, and it’s evident that they all enjoy working with one another and I think that’s what makes the show and their social media accounts so great.

Ahhh! So happy to see a blog about Riverdale. I absolutely love this show, the characters, their social media presence, and the buzz! I definitely agree that the celebrities have made a huge contribution to the show’s popularity through their personal lives and social media, choosing to get involved and speak up on other platforms. That makes them more than just TV show characters and gives fans a way to feel connected with them on a more personal level- which I think is super valuable. I tend to like celebrities even more when they speak up on important issues and topics today. This was a good read and definitely made me excited for next week!
