Robert DeNiro and Anne Hathaway costar in The Intern. DeNiro’s charater, Ben, lands a job as the senior intern at About The Fit, an online clothing company where Anne Hathaway’s character, Jules Ostin, is the CEO. Ben was trying to find meaning in life as a widowed senior citizen, when he sees a flyer for the position. Immediately, there is a disconnect between Ben’s old-school character and the company culture of an online business. However, Jules and her company have a lot to learn from Ben as well.
About The Fit is a millennial office where Jules Ostin is seen biking around the office so as to not waste time in her busy day. They celebrate employees’ birthdays, everyone works on the same floor, and they ring a bell for good performance. Some marketing strategies seen in the film include a map of the United States that the company can use to see buyers steps through the buying process. They also talk about the click through rate from the home screen of their website, and the message the composition of the website sends to buyers. Jules even takes customer service calls and states it gives her a fresh approach. Towards the end of the film, she helps Ben set up a Facebook profile and their evolution is apparent.
