With the rise of social media, it has become extremely common for employers and potential employers to browse the social media accounts of the people they hire. Here are three easy ways you can make sure your social media is employer friendly while still marketing yourself!
- Keep the partying pictures off your social media – you may have had fun at Wonder Bar with your friends this weekend – but employers don’t need to see it!
- Repost articles that you’re currently reading or content from others that you find interesting – show employers what you’re interested in – let them see you start important conversations!!! You’re an adult who has things to say about the world you live in! You know how to spark engagement!!!
- Try and keep your content consistent! Whether it be implementing a social media theme or just making sure you’re staying true to your own personal brand – make sure employers can see that you know how to run a social media account – even if it’s just your own personal page!
Don’t get so caught up in the idea that a future or current employer could look at your social media – express yourself! Don’t post things just because you think it’s what someone is looking for – make your social media pages an expression of who you are and what you want people to know about you!
and keep in mind… the Golden Rule should be: if you would be embarrassed if a future employer brought it up in an interview – you should probably re-think it!
