For the 2018-2019 Football Season, Dr.Pepper has introduced “Fansville” for a new creative direction in response to their football sponsorship renewal. Fansville is a parody episode like campaign that will air throughout the season, and will end with a “finale” during the national championship game. In Fansville, life revolves around football and fandom. The goal of each episode Fansville is to showcase the passion that college football fans have and seemingly encourage it; and so far I feel they have done this successfully.
Each “episode” / commercial I have seen has been very funny as they are an accurate exaggeration of the life as a true college football fan. Each one has left my friends and I laughing. This past Saturday when watching the GA/FL game, I actually saw an episode from the campaign three times. The name of it was “Blinsided,” and I encourage you to watch it, as it leaves you wondering what actually happened. The link is provided here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q2rOWcWYTg. When I first viewed this commercial, I did think that I comprehended it correctly, but as it aired twice more, I was not mistaken. It was quite a “blindside,” but made me and my friends laugh.
The idea of “Fansville,” and an ad campaign in the form of a parody tv series is so creative, and I believe it will be very effective for brand recognition and conversation. I can’t wait to see what humor Dr. Pepper rolls out next in this campaign series episode.
