U Up?

Podcasts seem to be everywhere these days. They’re the perfect companion for your morning commute, walk to class, or just any down time you have in the midst of your busy day. And you can find them on an endless list of topics from murderers to football and everything in between. There’s one in particular that I can’t seem to hit pause on. U Up? podcast, hosted by comedians Jordana Abraham and Jared Freid, tackles the world of dating and relationships in its weekly episodes. They feature multiple segments where they take on emails from listeners about their dating traumas, giving insight on the situations while including their own personal stories and relationship experiences into the mix.

U Up?, a subset of digital comedy brand Betches, has gained a cult following since its conception late last year. Receiving hundreds of emails a week with new listeners constantly tuning in, they attribute a lot of their success to social media. Jared and Jordana are always encouraging listeners to rate, review, and subscribe to the podcast, and go a step further to encourage a post to their Instagram stories, claiming it’s the best way to get the word out to followers and friends. Instagram is a huge platform for U Up? with its verified account reaching close to 50,000 followers.

Social media is found in the content of this podcast as well. U Up? focuses heavily on dating apps and constantly brings up the fact that they have changed the world of dating in both negative and positive ways. With this shift in dynamic surrounding dating and relationships, Jared and Jordana provide a guiding hand to all generations and a sense of community in experiences. The podcast delivers a light-hearted take on a serious topic that everyone can relate to. So, next time you see me laughing to myself going from one class to the next, you’ll know I’m listening to Jared and Jordana on U Up?

Podcasts have become so popular lately! I have wanted to invest time into them as well, but haven’t been able to really latch onto anything. U Up? seems super relatable and fun for our generation though- I might try it out! I think it’s important that you noted they get their fan base mostly from social media because I feel like there are not many ways people share podcasts with each other besides word-of-mouth. Using social media to promote U Up? is genius considering the topic, vibe, and target audience that Jared and Jordana are looking for! I think that other podcasts could become more well-known if they started using social media platforms to share their content and create a bigger fan base too. It could be as easy as sharing a post with friends!

Absolutely love this podcast because you can listen to it whenever throughout the day as a little pick me up. I also appreciate that they don’t try and present themselves as people who have all the keys to dating and instead intermix funny or embarrassing stories from their own experiences to make it more relevant to listeners.
