Last week, Sweetwater 420 Fest, a popular music festival held in Atlanta’s Centennial Park, released a couple of the big acts that will be performing at the festival in 2019. The festival takes place over the closest weekend to April 20th, aka 4/20, in honor of their best selling beer, this year being 4/19-4/21.
The festival has been going strong ever since its inception in 2005. They’ve been staged at different venues over the years including Oakhurst, Masquerade Music Park and Candler Park, but the festival has been held at Centennial Park in downtown Atlanta since 2014.
The music lineup has changed over the years in terms of genre, spanning everything from bluegrass to country to pop to hip-hop/rap to rock, yet they seemed to have settled on hitting the hippy audience with jam bands, having headliners such as Widespread Panic, Trey Anastasio Band, Umphrey’s McGee, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Dark Star Orchestra, Ween and others starting in 2017. This year they appear to be going for the same vibe at the festival, as they announced Widespread Panic headlining 2 out of the 3 nights of the festival. Other acts from the limited lineup they released last week include The Avett Brothers, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Rebelution, Moon Taxi, Keller Williams’ Grateful Grass, and more.
In addition to the line-up release on their website, they posted the line-up and link to buy tickets on all of their social media outlets, reaching over 14k on Instagram, 47k on Facebook, and almost 7k on twitter. With this wide of a reach, the early-bird tickets they have for sale, which are deeply discounted, sold out in less than an hour, leaving the rest of us who didn’t get tickets waiting for them to release the next wave of tickets at a higher price point.
I am extremely excited for the upcoming festival and am looking forward to the release of the rest of the lineup on their social media platforms.
