Who would have thought Facebook originated from such misogynistic foundations? I most certainly did not. I had heard about the Social Network as a film before, mainly because of the Oscar buzz it received a few years back, but I have never actually watched the movie all the way through, from start to finish. To be fair, it is a difficult movie to stay completely focused on for a whole two hours. There was no grandiose scenes, no exciting plot, and no satisfying ending. It just felt like I was watching a series of occurrences play out, which I technically did I guess considering it is based on true events.

The movie is centered around the multiple lawsuits involving Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg in its early growth. One lawsuit involving intellectual thief between Zuckerberg and the Winklevoss twins, and the other involving Zuckerberg and his best friend and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin. It was difficult to really emphasize with any of the characters, or should I say people. All of them had their faults and ticks that were annoying to watch. Jesse Eisenberg who portrayed Zuckerberg, for example, did this weird thing with his mouth the entire movie that really got under my skin. And he also painted Zuckerberg to seem ruthless, insensitive, and blatantly careless. Although I can understand the critical acclaim for the movie, I probably would not want to watch it again. It was very informative and gave insight to the birth of Facebook, but I’m not sure I wanted to know that information.

All in all, the Social Network was technically good movie, just not my taste. It was interesting learning more about Facebook, however. At the end of the film, it was stated that Facebook is valued at $25 billion dollars. The movie was released in 2010. I wonder how much that number has changed since then.
