This past weekend Blizzard hosted their 12th Blizzcon which is an annual event they host every year showcasing new games and updates for all of their titles. While fans were both excited about some announcements and disappointed about others, the one thing that stood out in everyone’s mind was the announcement of Lucio-Oh’s. Traditionally a gaming company, Blizzard announced a partnership with Kellogs in which they created an Overwatch (a shooting game) themed cereal based off one of the characters from the game. Official release of the cereal will be hitting shelves across the US in December, but those who attended Blizzcon in person had a chance of grabbing a box to take with them if they received a voucher from the Overwatch Arena.
The marketing for this is brilliant considering that Overwatch caters to a large portion of kids in gaming community. Whether it’s the Disney Pixar vibes their cinematics give off or the friendly/bright personalities of their characters, Overwatch has a strong following among children. This past summer Blizzard broadcast the finals of Overwatch on Disney XD, and it seems that they’re continuing to push into the market of a younger audience with this new partnership. Whether or not Lucio-Oh’s will become a staple in the cereal market remains to be seen.
