To kick off the start of November, Starbucks made a bold move to capture their social media audience. Releasing their seasonal holiday cups as usual, this year the brand offered a limited amount of free reusable cups for one day only.
I first found out about this offer through my own discovery on their Instagram page, and from countless friends contacting my holiday loving, reusable cup hoarding self. Of course, I was excited but, a struggling college student, had not thought much about making an attempt to go out of my way to one of the stores.
And then the day started, the day, the one day when the cups were available for free. All of my classes were canceled and I was intrigued, and it was 8 am. I looked on the Instagram page to see if anyone had actually gotten the cup or if it had just been a placebo deal to advertise the return of the holiday drinks.
Long story short, comments ranged from “I love my cup” to “my store ran out” to “WHERE can I find these.” And next thing I knew, I was stressed, i had thrown on quite possibly my ugliest outfit, and was literally running out of my house to drive to not the closest Starbucks, but the one I felt would have had the least traffic in the two hours the store had been open.
Did I fall for it? Harder than I think the brand could have ever hoped for. Is Christmas season starting too early? Debatable. Am I drinking out of my festively adorable reusable red cup as I write this blog post? Absolutely.
