Dawgs After Dark: Fantasy

After stepping foot on Sanford Stadium at Freshmen Welcome, we are given the G Book – the official traditions handbook of the University of Georgia. The last tradition in this book will lead us to attend an event known as a “Dawgs After Dark,” which is planned and hosted by the students of University Union, the student programming board on campus. Comprised of a group of dedicated students who strive to put on events that allow students to make these the “best four-ish years” of their lives, University Union held their first Dawgs After Dark of Spring 2019 on Friday, January 25th with a Universal Studios theme in the Tate Student Center.

What is a “Dawgs After Dark”?

Planned by the Late Night Committee of University Union, whose origins stem from providing students with an alternative to at-risk behavior in Athens, a Dawgs After Dark (D.A.D.) embraces a theme then provides various activities and keepsakes for attendees to enjoy. Catering to undergraduate students, graduate students, and local families, this event is free for all UGA students and $5 for non-UGA students. University Union took over three levels of the Tate Student Center last Friday and filled these areas with DIY stations, inflatables, photo booths, food, and more. The following are some highlights from this specific event:

Make Your Own Wand (Harry Potter)

Students utilized wooden sticks, hot glue, paint, and other materials to cast their own spells.

Optimus Prime vs. Megatron (Transformers)

Students joust on an inflatable platform as they fight for control of planet Earth.

Friend or Foe? (King Kong and Scooby Doo)

Students pose with their new stuffed animals (King Kong monkeys or Scooby Doo dogs).

Capture the Moment (Mamma Mia!)

Students prepare to take a photo in front of one of the green screens.

Embrace the University of Georgia tradition and attend one of these free events! University Union will be hosting two more Dawgs After Darks this semester. Learn more about their other committees (Cinematic Arts, Entertainment, and Union Speaks) on union.uga.edu. Join the organization and be a part of the planning process by attending one of the committee meetings:
