There are many ways to get involved at UGA. With over 800 students organizations and clubs, there is something for everyone. I am going to talk about my experience in some of these clubs and to present some of the options out there.
Service organizations are some of the biggest organizations on campus. These include UGA Heros, UGA Relay for Life, UGA Miracle, Camp Kesem UGA, and so many more. I’m involved in Camp Kesem, an organization that raises money to put on a free summer camp for kids whose parents have cancer, and it could not be a more rewarding experience. After raising money all year, we volunteer our time to be counselors at the camp. Additionally, I am in a service organization called Circle K that volunteers around the Athens community. Both are great ways to give back to causes both locally and statewide.
Academic fraternities are some of the best ways to get involved in order to better prepare you for the future professionally. There are business fraternities, an engineering fraternity, and more types in other schools. I am in a business fraternity called Pi Sigma Epsilon that has helped me exponentially in building my professional skills, including networking, resumes, interview skills, and more. This sales, management, and marketing business fraternity also provides opportunities for its members to network with companies directly.
Additional miscellaneous clubs exist to truly enhance the college experience. One of these clubs, CHAARG UGA, stands for Changing Health Attitudes and Actions to Recreate Girls and is an all-girl workout club that promotes both physical and mental health. We work out together twice a week, once at a studio and once in a small group at Ramsey, and are all about girls supporting girls. We additionally have social events and retreats.
Other types of things to get involved in include intramural or club sports, religious organizations, a cappella groups, cultural clubs and organizations, and more. There are many out there, so feel free to check out all the options on the involvement website. and more. Explore today and get involved to enrich your college experience!
