The Georgia Bulldogs baseball team started off 6-0 with back to back sweeps of Dayton and UMASS Lowell at home at Foley Field. Although the season is only two weeks old, the team has started off hot scoring 59 runs in those first 6 games. Unfortunately though, they could not get on the board against previously winless LIU Brooklyn. They will need their bats to heat back up tomorrow when they face off against 4-2 Kennesaw State before heading to Statesboro for a three game stretch with Georgia Southern.
LIU’s Jackson Svete started on the mound and pitched the first 6 innings. He held the Dawgs to only two hits through the first 6 innings while also adding 6 strikeouts. After the pitching change which saw Svete exit the game, Georgia’s bats started to heat up but still failed to score any runs.
LIU wasn’t the only team with solid pitching, though. The Georgia pitching staff only gave up two hits and one run. This continues a run of good outings by the Bulldogs’ pitchers. Unfortunately, though, they were let down by the play in the field. Georgia’s usually stellar defense made a few costly errors leading to the only score in the game.
This loss ultimately won’t effect Georgia too much in the long term as they have bigger goals in the long term, but facing off against a winless team probably should have been another win. Lets hope the Dawgs can bounce back soon and keep living up to that top-10 ranking.
